You’ve Had an Accident - What’s Next?

Find out what to expect when you file an auto accident claim, from initial questions you’ll be asked to how to get a damage estimate and have your car repaired. 

1. Call Safeco

If and when it’s safe to do so, call us from the scene of the accident. Take a few minutes to calm your nerves. The sooner you are able to file your claim, the sooner we can begin to help you.

Be ready to provide the following: 

  • When did the accident occur?
  • Where did the accident occur?
  • How did the accident happen?
  • What other vehicles were involved, including the year, make and model?
  • A description of the damage on each vehicle
  • The names and contact information of people involved in the accident
  • The extent of any injuries to people involved in the accident
  • The names and contact information of anyone who witnessed the accident
  • The name of the police department that responded and the police report number

Safeco can arrange to have your car towed from the scene of the accident if you have collision coverage.

After you report your claim, a representative will contact you within eight business hours to discuss what happens next, what your insurance policy covers and to answer any further questions.
